There's a great number of hands-on exhibits with very good scientific explanations, and frequent demonstrations and events. Awesome seasonal exhibits like spectacular gingerbread houses - Ginger bread lane is open for the holiday season and it’s super! There is also place where you can see microbes through a microscope, which is definitely a cool experience for kids. The Whitney is a must when in NYC whether you live here or are just visiting.
The architecture of the space is well done and there is an easy flow of traffic while admiring the exhibits. There was a decent crowd while we were there and we didn’t feel like we were on top of each other.

Extremely well put together museum with a fantastic Jim Henson exhibit. I think it's less known than many other museums in the area, but it is definitely one of the best we've been to. If you're a fan of film this museum is worth it for the props they have on display alone. They have many interactive exhibits revolving around movie making and the themes of film, but the Henson exhibit was the highlight for us. The architecture inside is pretty cool too.
