It's a big picnic and barbecue area with about 5 picnic shade sails pavilions and three electric barbecue cooktops. I normally come here for casual archery lessons and always use the picnic and barbecue facilities. There's a limited car park at Bennelong Parkway. There are also public lavatories at the Archery Centre.
The Newington Armory wharf area is part of the Newington Armament Depot and Nature Reserve (Newington Armory) heritage-listed precinct. The wharf area is from the Murama Healing Space to the boat jetty near the Armory Wharf Café. I find it a beautiful spot to watch the ferries and boats passing regularly on the Parramatta River. The jetty was once used as a ferry wharf when the Wentworth Point wharf was under renovation. Great place to bring the kids and watch waterbirds and explore the many attractions nearby.
Building 18, part of the Newington Armament Depot, is sometimes used for art exhibitions, especially for high schools. When I visited this building it was closed as it's only used occasionally. What I find interesting is the building and you enter through a tunnel as part of blast-proof walls. There's a wheelchair ramp as well. I can't tell what's inside the building but the whole premise is just eerily stunning. As a bonus, I suggest spending time at the Murama Dance Ground as it's right at the entrance.
One stunning spot, small and intimate but has one of the most exquisite view of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge! It's also part of the Sydney Royal Botanic Garden venues for hire. Right across from the Government House and part of the magic of this gorgeous city of Sydney. During the Covid-19 lockdown of twenty-twenty there's hardly anyone here which is fantastic to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this spot all by yourself.
It's listed as "venue for hire" but still part of the Royal Botanic Gardens overall setup. This is one of several sections of the garden being classified with lawn numbers for the purpose of public hiring and when booking for special events like weddings or the New Year's Eve fireworks. It's a spectacular spot like all the other lawn areas in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Public toilet is at Mare & Foal public toilet and the closest entry is from Victoria Lodge Gate. The best landmark in this lawn area is the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates.
A gorgeous lawn area for everyone.
